Phonics
Here at Platt we are proud to teach Phonics and Early Reading using Supersonic Phonic Friends.
Supersonic Phonic Friends is a DfE-approved, child-centred, systematic synthetic phonics programme. Rooted in rhythm, rhyme and movement, it brings phonics to life through engaging and interactive teaching. Our mastery approach ensures that children develop a deep understanding of each spelling by applying their skills in multiple ways: orally blending and segmenting sounds, recognising the spelling in isolation, reading it within words and varied contexts, and using it confidently in their own writing.
Our Phonics learning pathway
Our curriculum is progressive.
Our aim is that the following phases are introduced in the following year groups:
· Firm Foundations in Reception
· The Basics 2 and Basics 3 in Reception
· The Basics 4 in Reception/ Year 1
· The Higher Levels – Choose to Use Rules in Year 1
· The Higher Level – Switch it Spell Sounds in Year 1 and 2
We celebrate each child as an individual and recognise that children develop and learn at their own pace.
